AMERICAN MONKEYS

world's first published reader's edition of

The Scopes "Monkey Trial" transcripts

In honor and celebration of the

100-year anniversary

July 1925-2025

Created by A.J. Schaar & workshopped by The New Fortune Theatre Co. in collaboration with experts in theology, science, civil rights, history, humanities, education, and of course, the literary and performing arts.

The goal of this book has been to present these events and arguments fairly, faithfully, and in a manner compelling to read, because:

The court transcripts, uncut, are very challenging; the legalese and nitpicks being debated for hours on end make them all but inaccessible to high-school students studying these subjects and are even tough for widely read scholars to get through without a determined effort.

AMERICAN MONKEYS has been edited together in such a way that now the transcripts are not just accessible, and enlightening, but downright entertaining!

American Monkeys PREMIERED with the New Fortune Theatre Co.

July 26, 2025

It was a Re-CREATION of the Trial, with an incredible cast reading the "good parts version" of the trial transcripts

(American Monkeys) complete with a festive fair-like atmosphere (just like the town of Dayton in 1925)!

Have a Look!

"That book!"

"There is that book!"

"That book..."

The roost for most curious bk-bk-bk-books.
